Waterford City(ish), 2-1-10

#1 Post by somedose »

People: Myself, James and a friend

Duration: About 4 hours

Tide:Rising

Weather:Cold but calm

Bait:Frozen peeler

Rigs:3/0 and 4/0 clipped and pulleys

Results:6 codling

Report:Went down to river and decided to give it a go for some cod. Met 3 other anglers upon arriving who had only had a few flounder after a few hours fishing. Things weren't looking good on the cod front but looking at the coloured water we were quietly confident. Had a codling on the second cast and followed that with another 3 for the rest of the session. James and Connor got one a piece. They weren't big (about 30cm) but still bigger than anything we caught in Scotland! Weirdly we didn't get any whiting or flounder - go figure :|
Species 2010 - Cod
Entries now open for the Henry's Tackle Shop All Ireland Shore Smooth Hound Championships on July 18h hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

Fished near the city myself recently and was plagued by small ones, the rod bouncin within a minute of castin out. cant seem to do better than 30cm on the suir so far. tried youghal a while ago and everything i got was bigger down there. Gonna give it another go tomorrow night so if we come across anything worth while i'll stick up a post

Hi somedose, is James not a friend  seems to be plenty of small ones about alright. Nice to have caught the target species for the trip too.
