Re: Hake fishing
hi dan,
ive been worrying about this problem too for a while now. i do most of my fishing
off the clare coast where there is light commercial fishing with some fabulous
catches of hake are landed, but almost none on rod and line. These are caught
in gill nets on the bottom
Ive heard they may feed nocternally on baitfish higher up in the water, maybe
a night trip would work

Re: Hake fishing
We some times get Hake out of Tramore Co. Waterford Sept/Oct when we are fishing for whiting they like to hold around baited pots but you need to be bang on top of the shoal have seen a boat catching them and another boat tied to the stern and not getting any.
I have toyed with the idea of putting down a pot of bait leaving it for a couple of hours and then having a go just never got around to doing it.

Re: Hake fishing
The commercials from Cork Harbour used to steam south west of the seven heads for hake when they had a hake fishery which might tell us somethingsteyrman wrote:hi dan im planning a trip in my boat to cork shortly for hake i have a mark to try if you want you can tag along along with haddock in the plans as well
