Anybody got tips for Claremont Strand Nth Dublin ???

#1 Post by shamoo0804 »

Fished this place 3 times.

1st time, fished the beach opposite howth harbour in daylight lw up for around 3 hours caught nowt.

2nd time fished into the nearest channel and onto the sandbank, then moved upto the corner where the rocks are, fishing incoming tide in daylight, caught nothing.

Finally fished here http://sea-angling-ireland.org/bulletin ... =3&t=24259

I'd be interested to hear any views from guys that have fished this mark previously/regularly.

It looked like it would be worth a shot with lures around low water for bass and maybe sea trout, given that I know lads get them up round the golf club house, but what tides/conditions are best for bait fishing, and where abouts on the beach would you fish.

I know the currents are extremely strong around this area, so would be keen to avoid fishing off the main sandbank, especially as my waders have a hole in the crotch :(

I have searched the site for info already, and its hasnt thrown much up.

Any comments gratefully recieved, pm me if you dont want any tips in the public domain.

Thanks in advance.

I've snorkelled along there in the past, the channel is full of BIG crabs and kelpy kinda weed(was a few years now but i remember it being weedy).. so perhaps cast past the central channel, to the sides of the sandbank in the middle, thae one ya can see at low water....
I also remember standin on top of the stone square thing there on the beach, think it a water mains thinamajig, and tide was full in but calm, saw a bright red fish bout 10 inch long saunterin about which I know only assume was perhaps a gurnard.... also, plenty of baby flatties at low water about your feet if ya wade, so can;t see the big fish being far off.....

Thanks for the comments spindlefist,

Plenty of crabs in the area for sure, but they did seem to ease off as the speed of the tide increased, didnt find the weed bad at all, until the tide was 1/2 way up. Just a case of checking the bait more regularly I guess.

Interesting about the mysterious red fish.

You need to get the tide just right for good flats there. It's worth putting in a few hours for them. Not the best spot for bass as your a little too South along that that coast for them. Hope this helps?
