Dingle advice

#1 Post by RockHunter »

I am planning to head to Dingle the weekend of 26-27th September. I have never fished there before so any advice on marks in the Dingle-Dunquin-Ballyferriter-Brandon Bay area would be appreciated.

Assuming the weather is still good I will be mostly lure fishing so would like some information on marks for big pollock and bass.
If the weather breaks then I will be mostly bait fishing so information on beaches that are good for bass would be appreciated, along with the best stage of the tide to fish them.

You can PM me - all info will be in strictest confidence - I won't breath a word of it to anybody.
Thanks

Thanks for that Craigo.

Anybody else got any marks they would like to share?
Since the calm weather looks like it will persist over the weekend I will be mostly lure fishing so any good marks for bass would be appreciated.
Also marks for decent size pollock.

Thanks

Frank, there is a Bob Moss guide book on fishing the dingle peninsula you might be able to pick up there.

Thanks for reminding me about that.
I will have a look out for it. I presume there is a tackle shop in Dingle town that will stock it?

There actually isn't a tackle shop in Dingle although there are a couple of places stock a few bits and pieces but I would suggest stopping off in Lander of Tralee on the way down. Bait can also be a little tricky to get for that reason, that said there are plenty to catch or collect bait down there. As has already been suggested pick up a copy of Bob Moses guide and also an OS map, that's what I did and have found them invaluable as I'm still very much exploring the area myself, I just wish I could get down there more often. You should be able to pick up both in Landers or in the tourist information office in Dingle.

Enjoy the trip

there is a sports shop in dingle town called "GARVEYS" they stock frozen baits and a very limited suply of tackle but its somethin as there is no real tackle shops in dingle so if your looking for something in particular tackle wise your better off stopping at landers in tralee on the way in as "GARVEYS" more than likely wont stock it . the freezer of frozen baits in garveys is in the back store room if you need it but you have to ask a member of staff to show you. right at the marina in dingle there is a bookshop ! its right beside the big bronze statue of fungie ! they stock all 3 of bob moss's books ! and like the lads said bring an OS map !!.
species '09 - (42)

specimens 09 - twait shad 1.22kg , 3 beard rockling 2lb 6oz , whiting 3lb .

Does GARVEYS stock weights? It's the only thing I don't want to bring with me when we fly in with Ryanair. Have a house booked in Ventry for next week .... can't wait!
