saltees, 13/08/09
Vessel:screeming reels
Crew:eddie, myself
Duration:10 hours
Tide:ebb flood ebb
Weather:fantastic at last, but only for one day
Bait:rag, mack, frozen crab
Rigs:everything in the box
Results:22 species, Ballen , cuckoo, goldsinny, rock cook, corkwing wrasse, ling, codling, whiting, pollock, poor cod, pouting, mackerel, launce, thornback ray, dabs, plaice, LSD, huss, grey gurnard, long spinned scorpian,Starry smoothound, turbot
Launched from Dunmore east
Well, at last managed to get out for a day, and we had a good days fishing around the saltees. no plan , just went to various marks to see what we could pick up and to give eddie a view of the marks before the upcoming small boats festival.
highlight of the day was a nice specimen Starry Smoothound of 3.3 kg on a spinning rod fishing for flats, it put up a great scrap. also had another very shortly afterwards but not as big.
all in all a great day, though at times it was like cowes week with amount of small boats out fishing!!!
regards

That's a fine tally Martyn.
Hopefully it will all come together at the festival. Is it the same team this year?

Out of Tramore yesterday motor over to the hook that slip in Dunmore not for me
Fishing 2 to 4 miles of Hook Head
myself plus one other boat from Tramore
tide missed the high water 4 hours down 1 hour up
Ling 2 off
Cod 1 off
Dog fish lost count coming up 3 at a time
Mack as many as needed for the trip about 3 doz
Whiting approx 6 doz
pollack 7 off
Red Gurnard about 6 or 7
poor cod
pouting
Fishing would be better over the top of the tide got slack mid tide
We were hoping for some cod but the cod mark was alive with dog fish god knows when we will get another trip over weather was just right.

Re: saltees, 13/08/09
hi bass point,
we had a couple of keeper cod to 3lbs, and hopefully a nice sign, lots of small codling ( bout 5 inches long ) near the saltee's, like 3 at a time. lets hope its future stocks, before they get netted!
yes 22, species, barry, it would be nice to get them on the comp, but the rock cook and goldsinney and turbot are very hard to get to size
regards
