Veals/Daiwa Last Man Standing, JD V Seaniebo (Courtown)

#1 Post by Seaniebo »

People: Myself and JD, m.b3 was also along enjoying the weather.

Duration: 4 hours of misery

Tide: Hokey Pokey

Weather: Wet and Windy

Bait: Lug, rag, crab, sandeel, mac, razor.

Rigs: Various

Results:

Was back in Dublin unexpectadly and got a call from John to see if I fancied getting the first leg of our LMS out of the way. Neither of us were prepared so whatever rigs were in the car and whatever bait we could buy would have to suffice.

Arrived onto the North beach in courtown to be greeted by a big old sea. A fair bit of weed around in close but we reckoned it looked fishable.

First blood went to John with a whiting that was smaller than the hook! This was to set the theme for the day. Plenty of mini whiting attacking anything that was put out.

Decided to try for bass myself, only had 3 hook clipped rigs, so these were duly baited with whole peelers, 3 or 4 king rag and razor baits and lobbed behind the first breaker. No bass fancied a go at these fine delicasies but the flounder were more than willing to have a go! Biggest being 27cm, in no way put off by massive baits in comparison.

In the end up I had 8 flounder (5 in size) 1 tub gurnard of 22cm and an under size whiting. Think John had 7 undersize whiting and 1 counting flounder leaving the scores 170 points to 62 points in my favour.

Have to say the weather and fishing were far from enjoyable but it we had a bit of craic none the less and theres not a whole pile in it with the second leg still to come.
I require a tremendous amount of calcium

sounds like a doggy bashing session is on the cards  courtown isnt exactly on fire with fish at the moment  yet the beaches either side of it up and down the coast are producing some decent fish (so i,m told  )its all to fish for in round two
