Can anyone recommend to me a good headlight for fishing?

Can anyone recommend me or give me any suggestions as to what type of headlight I should buy for fishing.
I do alot of night fishing, in particular on surf beaches and need to buy a new light as my old one is done.
There are so many available on the market these days I don't know what one to get.
Any help or advice would be great.

The Silva L1 is excellent as well. Quite a few guys on here use them. You're better paying a bit extra first time round. I've had a few Ebay lights and they always break. The beam is good as Luxeon LED's are readily available and getting cheaper, but the housing is not robust enough.

get a led there way better that the halogen on power but the bime is not as big

Petzl Ultra, 350 lumens, bit pricey but the best of the crop IMHO. Never gave me any trouble.

I use the energizer one... cost 17 euros now in Argos as its on sale. Normally 20 euros... never gave me any trouble and I think a lot of lads here use it based on what I see on posts.

started with the energiser, which was fine and i still have it as a backup. It has several settings including a red light which is great for keeping your night vision good and doesnt attract moths. Then i got a Silva L1, no complaints with it, it has a much brighter beam which means i dont have to lug a lamp around as well . As for the petzl ultra, very pricey but top of the range,,,i've had to check to see if my L1 was switched on when i'm fishing with Fishface, who has an Ultra. Its like a searchlight, lights up the whole beach Maybe a bit overkill,,,,,or maybe i'm just jealous . All depends on your budget,,, energiser is good value for money though

if your going for a silva the best one there has to be the l1

The Petzl Ultra Headtorch has a 3 stage output, so it depends on the settings:

High (350 Lumens): 120m beam / 1h45
Optimum: 80m beam / 4h54
Economic: 40m beam / 16h45

IMHO that is pretty serious, making the Petzl Ultra a very useful tool. In regards to the Silva lights, I am not really convinced, having read the thread here: http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... ilit=silva

Have you actually verified those times yourself? 99% of the time its just marketing BS and often they don't come close to the time advertised.

I use the L1 and it hasn't given me any grief, an excellent light.

please dont quote what you read on the box, cmon in all fairness every product out there has bs on the box,

id like to hear from some one using one in night comps and in times where they dont get a chance to charge it between comps,

been using an MFA 2 in 1 Headlamp for about 3 years now, carry spare AA batterys and a a spare cheap headlamp just in case, find the MFA great, does the job and i like it a lot, may not give the longest beam or the brightest light but its fit for the job, the leds show up what i am doing and i can see the rod tip, bait up and cast and the full beam gets me back to the car, what else do you need?
