Shannon Estuary 05.04.09

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: baitdigger & myself

Duration:First mark 09:00-12:00 Second Mark 12:30-16:00

Tide: HT @ 14:17

Weather: Dry with a fresh Southerly wind

Bait: Herring, Lug, Mackerel, Razor, Sandeel & Squid

Rigs: Various

Results: Flounder and Dogfish

Report: Arranged to meet up with baitdigger to try a couple of marks on the Estuary. After introductions were made we set of for the first mark to try for Ray. With the sun shinning and tide flooding baits were sent out. baitdigger got off the mark with a doggie the Ray can't be too far behind we thought. The crabs were busy stripping us clean on anything that had been out more than 10-15mins. baitdigger was in again with a nice flounder while I was busy cracking off twice in row   hadn't done that in a long time  then after fishing the first 3hrs of the flood with no Ray showing for us we move to the second mark were Bass and Flounder were the quarry. Juicey lug baits (compliments of baitdigger) were lobbed out things were very quiet and the crabs were at work here too. Then just as we were getting ready to pack up i got a knock and plump flounder came ashore to save the blank. We were chatting to Bill Ryan who dropped by and he was saying things were fairly quiet all around at the moment. It was nice to get out all the same and first time fishing with Neil aka baitdigger thanks again for showing me a couple of new marks and for supplying the lug much obliged i'll return the favour :)

P.s. gimme a shout and we'll tie things up for later in the week

I have a North Clare rock mark in mind for Thursday afternoon, not a bad tide and a full moon. Im hoping to do the estuary at low in the morning tomorrow(inagh) it should be fining down, unless it rains again today.
The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.
