Shannon estuary Co Clare

#1 Post by mann »

People: alan & I.

Duration: 3 HOURS

Tide: L/W MIDNIGHT

Weather: GOOD THEN RAIN.

Bait: MACKEREL / SQUID AND EEL.

Rigs: PORTSMOUTH WITH SIZE 2 MANTA 540

Results: A 5LB 10oz Thornback Ray

Report:

Well I couldn’t go home without getting another Ray and seen as the weather picked up a little off we went… only had a couple of knocks during session the ray below gave a sly tug so I waited for the second tap… when it came I tightened down on the line and raised the rod but felt nothing but I new he couldn’t turn his nose up at the big cocktail bait he had just sampled so I left it in the area,

Within a couple of minutes he found it again and bang went the rod and up popped this little fella. :D

Sound lads,

No you don’t want these around you Bryan… these small ones are easy to catch I wouldn’t have bothered going after them again only my nephew wanted another go at them so I had to bring him back to the mark… I was hoping for a nice Bullhuss to show up but what pest took my bait another bloomin Thornback… the only thing I hate worse then thornback’s are crabs eating my bait,

Only joking man I love them and will keep trying for the big one every chance I get

Anthony I knew it was going to be a late one and I was staying until I caught a good fish or my bait ran out.. I must say I was happy to catch the fish rather then have to use up a shopping trolley full of bait before going home

So we knew it could have turned into a late session but as we had to hit limerick next day we planned to stick it out until one of us connected with a Ray… didn’t want your Mrs sitting up all night waiting for you and if your back came at you again you would have had to suffer… as I said we planned to stick with it and make it work no matter,

Plus Alan likes his comfort and reckons 3 in the van is 1 too much… have to agree with him even though it’s a 3 seated cab I would only bring a third person reluctantly unless I had the stun gun so I could prod the person next to me every time he touched me, 8)

Thanks Gearoid,

But where you been man the ray above is the 3rd i caught since 21st of march.. And I did put a post thanking you… or I should say thank’s to your ray in one of your post that gave me the push to go get one,

The first one came in at 6.40lb… cant remember the weight of the second one I caught on the 22nd it may have been around 4lb Thinking about it I never done a report on that one so your forgiven on that.

I wonder if them jet ski’s will be at that mark again this weekend I’m thinking of giving myself the sack for a few days so I might check it out and let you know the story.

Let me know when your free to travel and we will give it a bladder.

Cant seem to find the picture of the second ray but K/c was there the same night and caught 4 rays to my one.

I was amazed when Donagh told me about the size of ray that can be caught around the estuary and I now see why you all stick with fishing for them,

Oh no its 3.30am looks like I will have to give myself a good talking to for missing work again.
