#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:wicklow pier ,me ,fishface, John Bunn,,,,,,,,,,,,North wicklow Beach,, me

Duration:pier,,4-30pm-9pm,,beach 4-30pm-9-45pm

Tide:rising

Weather:nice and dry

Bait:lug,rag,mack,squid

Rigs:flappers and 1 hook clipped down

Results:wicklow pier; 1 x short spined sea scorpion,1x flounder, 8x whiting
north wicklow beach; 2 x doggies, 1 x 5 bearded rockling

Report:Went to wicklow pier on friday evening. Looked like there was nobody about but when i turned the corner at the lighthouse there were lots of people fishing  .Nobody had caught anything i was told. Got set up with two rods, one in close and one about 50 yds out. Got a nice sea scorpion in close on the small rod on the 2nd cast  . Nothing else till it got dark. As the others left i got into the " hotspot" in the corner. John Bunn and Neil arrived and John was straight into small flounder and whiting. I then got a small flounder followed by a couple of whiting. We tried big baits but there were no dogs around.Left around 9pm.

Got dropped off by the wife at 4-30pm and made my way down to the beach. Spoke to a few lads who told me there was a comp on from 6-30pm-11pm. I got set up with 2 rods. I had brought the 15foot rod with me to try to get some distance and maybe some doggies but not a nibble during daylight. I was settled in,but no fish  , when all the lads made their way down to their pegs. Peg 1 was just down from me and i had a chat with the guy who told me they were a club from Blackrock. He hadnt got a nibble either. I got my first fish at 7-45pm, a nice 20cm rockling, a counter  . I was nearly going to get the guy in peg 1 to mark my card, then i remembered i wasnt in the comp,,,,drat

I was putting large mack baits out for doggies, no joy, then i changed to a couple of rag on a single hook tipped with squid and had a result, a nice big doggie swung onto the beach. (8pm ). Had a few nibbles but nothing else till about 9-30pm , another doggie in close, 30 yds , on a 3 hook flapper, as i was packing up  . Got a text from the missus and had to fly,,,wonder how the lads did in the comp :?: :?:
