East coast raiders 2nd MA courtown, north beach
People:14 sunbalsted souls
Duration:1-6pm
Tide:flooding
Weather:flat calm , sunshine
Bait:all manner of baits
Rigs: loads
Results:flounders, dabs and whiting
Report:what can i say the first comp in a long time with pleasurable conditions, no 6 foot waves, gale force winds, rain, sleet or snow greeted us!! just nice balmy weather. not great for the fishing mind you but sure who cares. anyway at 1pm 14 lads casted 42 baits into the sea in the hope of a fish or two. a couple of lads decided to try their luck for an early dog at range but the majority went in close in search of flats. rodger was first to strike lucky with a nice 30cm flounder from under his feet. after a biteless first cast i decided to put one out and after 15 min was rewarded with a lovely 20cm dab. a few fish where starting to show, with alby grabbing a few flats too. sure enough an hour came and went and this fishing was slow to say the least, eventually i put a flapper about 30 yards, baited up a spare trace and proceeded to twitch away until i got a bite, let the line down, twitched again and sure enough another bite, evetually brought in a double counter both caught on lug tipped with maddies. robby to the right of me landed a lovely flat on the same cast at 30cm, so it was still fairly tight at the top. dennis evetually caught a fish, and with it took the pool for the longest flat. fish where still coming in in dribs and drabs, no real pattern was emerging, just casting and hoping. went back out again after a few blank casts in close and was rewarded with an undersize whitng, hit an undersize flounder the next cast at range too, was well chuffed!. word was poor old boycie only had one in for 5/6 fish. still lads where getting a few fish over the beach, with no one blanking. missed a couple of bites and finally got back into a few fish with an hour to go, managed three undersize whiting in fairly close, mangling beautifully presented flounder baits, still was happy to see them, making my card look a little more respectable. dennis, who had a bet with alby for a tenner over wether a dog would show up, was still wanging them out and the baits where coming back untouched everytime, demorilising stuff. after another missed bite, my last cast was plopped in fairly close, in the hope of a late flounder, after a little knock, i suspected a small whiting was mincing the bait again. but at lines up i was pleasently surprised to see a 21cm dabs flappin on the beach. it seemed fairly tight as to who won it, with myself, rodger and robbie all within a shout, thats what we thought until we heard, tony (a new member to the club)had somehow amased 24 fish??? credit where credit is due, well done, absolutely hammered all of us. final results where
