Deepest, Darkest Wicklow, 18th March 2009

#1 Post by shamoo0804 »

People: Me & Corbyeire, then Al aswell

Duration:Me & Corbyeire 4.45pm to 11.45pm, Al 8.15pm to 11.45pm

Tide:going out

Weather:Weird.......lovely sunshine leaving Dublin, horrible pea-soup fog when we arrived, visibilty down to 30 yards at its worst.

Bait: Lug, Rag, Mack, Sandeel, Squid, Peeler

Rigs: Flappers & Pulleys

Results: 24 Bass (all C & R), 2 Flounder, 2 (5.B.) Rockling, 1 LSD, 8 Whiting between us.

Report: The fishing started slow enough with me 1st in with a micro Flounder after about 45 minutes, then nothing for sometime. Baits at distance were coming back stripped, but on most casts on the flappers, baits were untouched. Al arrived (eventually), and I was next in with a good and healthy bass, but fishing was still slow, it seemed to kick off around 10pm, with good missed bites becoming a regular occurance, and a few fish being taken. It was dissapointing at this stage to see the whiting being caught as we all though that was the end of the bass, however the whiting were playing 2nd fiddle tonight and the bass became more regular, with a few doubles. Myself and Al had the majority, but Brian chipped in with a few. Strange how 10 yards up/down the beach can have such an effect on whats caught.

Rag and Lug proved the best bait overall.

All in all a pleasant nights fishing, got very cold towards the end, and I think we were all glad once the bait had ran out and we could head back to the warmth of the car.

All the bass went back to fight another day
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

Cheers for the bait lads :) I couldn't believe the Fog  It was unbelievable i'm glad it cleared up a bit on the way home though! Very enjoyable session but cold towards the end, I was a bit worried when my first two fish we're a double of whiting  but the that was to be the end of the whiting for the night thank God :D I ended up with 11 Bass in total after that, not huge fish but definitely good too see the numbers! Mark did well last night getting most species!

Conor, the bass were not massive, but as Al said, nice to see such a quantity, the signs look good for bass angling 2 or 3 years down the line.

Nice to get a dog on the east coast atlast too :D

Nice session lads and great to see alot of bass about. That fog was nuts I bet the head lamps were on early. Just so you'd not cast at each other!

The headlamps didn't really help all you could see was the fog when you turned them on  It was a bit disorientating i couldn't even see my rod and tripod, i was walking in completely different direction to where they were  The lads got there at around 4 and said the fog was there then, i wasn't there about 8.15pm myself.

Great fishing lads, well done,,and theres me thinking that a fog would kill the fishing. Nice mix of species.
