brittas bay 10-03-09

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:4-9pm

Tide:rising

Weather:beautiful,mild, dry

Bait:lug,mack,squid

Rigs:flappers, pulley rig

Results:4 whiting, 1 doggie

Report:After a bad weekend during which my son was randomly attacked in Grafton Street and had his tooth knocked out and a bone in his face broken ,,,i felt the need to get out to the sea to relax and do some fishing.I decided on Brittas , picked up my lug in Viking and headed down. Got set up and for the first time in 3 days i was able to put the attack out of my mind. Thank god for fishing. It was glorious out but the tide was well out and its very shallow at the little beach i fish. I didnt get a nibble during daylight with all the baits coming back untouched. Fishface dropped by to say hello around 7pm and i still hadnt a nibble. He had a few distance casts on my rod but still no bites. He decided Liverpool v Real Madrid was a better option and left,,,,,but before he went he told me I was going to blank   ,, and that there was nothing on this beach,,,it was too early in the year  . I decided that blanking wasnt an option and that i had to get something to prove him wrong. I moved about 50 yds to a more snaggy part of the beach and cast out. I got a result   ,,,even though it was a mini whiting . I sent Fishface the pic to his phone   . I cast out again and on a slow retrieve i felt a heavier pull which turned out to be a doggie, only my second this year. 2 more casts resulted in 2 more whiting, then i was out of bait, time to pack up. The fish were coming in on the rising tide, noted for future reference. Had a good test of my new Silva L1 headlamp and im pleased with the beam of light on it, though i think i;ll take Rogers advice and switch to the 4 batteries strapped to the belt or in the pocket.

at least you didnt blank. i was out for 4 hours yesterday with a friend and didnt even get a bite but it was during the day. i was also rushing home to see Real Madrid take a hammering.

glad to hear a few fishies took your mind off things, nothing like fishing on an empty beach to clear the head.

Thanks lads, appreciate the comments :wink:Young lad was hopped on from behind and was out before he knew what was happening,,,Bruce Lee himself wouldnt have stood a chance,,, though i agree with you John about the classes. A nephew of mine was picked on by a couple of thugs in town a few years ago and he battered them,,,he's a black belt  . Could do with some self defence lessons myself,,,was attacked in work a few weeks ago by 5 members of an Irish ethnic minority armed with clubs and concrete blocks,,,though i'd need a Kalashnikov to deal with them  . Fight or flight,,,,,,,,,flight every time but at my weight flights not an option. Its no wonder i like to get out fishing to relax
