Boat charter in Kimore Quay

I may have convinced a pal of mine to include a day's fishing in Kilmore Quay as part of his stag festivities. Happy days!

Can anyone recommend a boat to charter. There would probably be about 8 lads, most if not all would also need to rent gear (rods, reels, rigs etc). Is there someone who can organise all of this as well?

Any recommenations appreciated.

i know youve asked about kilmore quay but id highly recomend Angus Ritchie who runs a boat out of Dunmore east. we were out with him last year and we all had a great day. he has rods and reels for hire and a mini tackle shop on board. you are also near to waterford city which is great for a night out.

Guy's, I've fished with every skipper in Kilmore and I have to say that they're all nice guys, on each of their days they'll try their best to make you have a good time, but when it comes to putting you over fish using his vast years of experience there's one skipper that stands out above the rest; Eamonn Hayes is the only one if you want a skipper to put you on the small pockets of fish that are left down there. I'll second both Paul and Jim above either Dick or Eamonn Hayes with "Enterprise" and "Autumn Dream".
Angus is good too but Dunmore East may be a little far away for you to travel to

Stag took the bait and the rest seem keen so it looks like that's what were going to do. I gave him a few numbers so I don't know who he spoke to. I'll let you know how we get on.

If 8 lads were fishing for the day, how much bait would each man use/need? Skipper says he only has squid so I'm going to try and organise lug and probably some frozen mack.

If I got 3 frozen mack and two packets of lug (20 in each pack) for each man, do you think that would suffice for a day's fishing, say from 11am to 5pm?

Think rag and mussel is prob a good start on the bait front. Maybe some mackerel also.
Prob need about 40 or so rag a man and a paxk of mussel...and thats just for handy days fishing down there.
But fish will come to plain Hokkai lures...check out Shamrock Tackle range, they make loads of stuff that is deadly for Kilmore!!

But, seriously, all ya need in Kilmore is good solid Hokkai's, if you're lucky you wont loose a lot of gear and catch a bundle of fish, if you loose gear you'll still have the craic with Eamon, and once you get back on dry land you'll drink yourself silly in the hotel and laugh it off !!!! (stag parties rule!!).

If you need bait, get our mate Fergie to provide ya, he lives in Bray, so he can meet you in the petrol station in KilMac on your way past (086 8741651) tell him Paul recommended him. I'm sure Boycie will meet ya enroute too so that you don't have to waste time. the key to having a great day is to put a bucket in the middle of the boat full of cheap rigs and LOADS of 6 oz and 8oz weights. Dive in when needed, and bring home some fillets to justify the cost (the hotel or hostel will freeze them down if your lucky enough to catch any). At the end of the day, have a blast and a laugh, you've chosen a great option for a stag. Enjoy!!!!

Yes, I'm delighted that he went with my suggestion. An alternative had been some nonsense involving quad bikes and the like followed by a night out in Dublin. I know which I'd rather do!

Looks like it's all arranged now and he seems happy. However, I'm confused. Jim from Cork recommended Dick Hayes and said he was 4th on the list. I gave the stag Dick's mobile number (along with one or two others).

I just asked him who he went with and he replied that he spoke with a guy called John Deverage but he quoted me back his mobile number and it matches the mobile given on the link above for Dick Hayes. Are they from the same boat? Either way we're happy and very much looking forward to it.

John Devereaux was cox on the lifeboat for years and is a very good skipper as well good choice.

John Devereaux is no slouch at finding the fish. Have fished with him on a good few occasions and like yappo says, he is a very good skipper so dont worry!!
