polo mint and balloon rig for getting extra distance

#1 Post by gfkelly1969 »

this is a rig I tried out and it worked well,

what you need
balloons
polo mints
swivels
spare line
any rig you like to use

run main line free trough a swivel and the centre of the polo mint then tie some line around one side of the polo mint and on to the clip swivel then on the other side of the polo mint tie the balloon and then tie the balloon to the other swivel
set up like in the photo

how to use
cast out with the wind at your back or with the tide going out from you

if conditions are right it will go out further then you can cast

how it works

the balloon will keep your rig a float for about 10 or 15 min's until the polo mint dissolves and then it will drop your rig and bait to the bottom

the day I tried this I did not get any fish but if you try it out let me know how you get on

if any one wants a bigger picture let me know and I will email it

i didn't burst any balloons when i tried it,

the weight of the lead and the bait should keep the hooks away from the balloon

when you set up the rig put the balloon on last just before you cast out and you should have no problem

i dont get it, why do you want to float it first...??? is it so the wind will take it out further. depending on what way its blowing

yes if you have the wind at your back it should keep going out for maybe 15 mins and the polo mint will dissolve and drop your rig and bait to the sea bed

if conditions are right you should get out further then you can cast
the rig i saw done did not have the swivel from the balloon, the rig before would let the balloon blow off in the wind,to me this is just more litter on the shore

i guess it wont work good every where, but as i said if the conditions are right it could work well,it all depends on wind and tide, you will have to look and if you think conditions are right you can try it

only tried this twice the first time it did go a good distance out the second time it went out side ways and i did not get good distance

only experimenting with this so not sure how good it works yet, if any one gives it a go let me know what they think

Great idea. Maybe if yer good at tying balloon animals you could disguise it as a comorant. Might paddle out a little further ;)

probably would be but for people like my self who are not great casters the balloon might help to get to deeper water and bigger fish
