super mag spool not locking

Slight problem with my new second hand reel… took it out last night for the first time and on the second cast I pushed the lever forward to lock the spool and when I started to reel in the slack the spool started to let out line as if free spooling… had to stop it with my finger and push the lever back to free spool then onto lock again,

It only happened once during the session but it reminded me of when I first got my own 525... After 3 outing it started doing the same and on the fifth outing it gave up altogether and I had to have it replaced,

Could anyone tell me if there is a solution for this please… or any ideas of what could cause this to happen,

you need to tighten the screw on the lever. it's that simple. happened to me before and after hours of stripping and losing the head it eventually became clear

ya sounds like it could be a few different things...could be somethng to do with pinion, pinion return mechanism or the pinion washer on the spool....try tightening that screw first neway and if that still doesnt work ill have a look at it for you next session....might just need a good servicing aswel

I just tried to tighten the screw but had no noticeable movement… seems as tight as my other 525 which is running good at the moment… I seem to recognise them 3 smiley faces from somewhere,

It looks like major surgery is needed and after seeing you in action while out fishing I really wouldn’t like to slow you down by having you strip down the reel in between baiting up and landing fish… but I would be well pleased if you could find the time to check both reels before the trip at Christmas… last thing I need is for something to go wrong after a 3 hour drive,

I could maybe drop them off to you to look at in your own time… got it from Dulittle so it’s not from the other chap.. Still waiting to hear from him.

when you move the engage lever does is behave the same as the one on your other reel that works?

at that mark... it may be that i was in the wrong field... It was unreal I couldn’t keep up with them… I can see where you picked up your speed fishing now and god knows you need it around there,

Packed up around 9:30 and hit the other mark for five nice whiting for tea tomorrow / today,

Took it with me for another bash tonight and it worked fine… for how long I don’t know,
And yes both levers seem to work the same… one good thing I found is the drag on it works better then my own… other then that I found no difference.

really sounds like the lever needing tightening or maybe it's worn... oh i dont know. mine used to act up and similar to yours it would work fine again on the next trip...

As I said I could have been in the wrong area… it was very dark and it looked like I was on the moon and it wasn’t a wasted trip because I gave my mother some nice size whiting… there the only fish she will eat,

I was going to kidnap you and bring you down but you would have been knackered today and you don’t need that so I went to kidnap Dulittle but he looked knackered already so I took the dog instead,

you might aswel have...went on the beer here in college at 2 o clock yesterday and went to bed at 5 this mornin...im telling you im critical at the moment...
