Bait buckets

#1 Post by Security man »

Just wondering about 'Bait Buckets'....

They're used quite a lot in the States, apparently. My Brother-in-law uses one all the time, (in Long Island NY) and I thought it was a great idea. A big KFC bucket with lid on, crammed with mushy mackrel and other crap, and lots of holes in the side - just dangles over the side of the boat on a rope....

Strangely enough I've never come across one being used here, nor have I ever seen them for sale in any tackle shops...

I've been thinking of trying chumming for some time, but just never got around to it. A few of the lads here do it, but they tend to tie onion bags onto the Anchor Chain or such to get the chum to the bottom. I don't think it would hurt a bit and would be well worth a try.

groundbait used of the side of a pier or deep water mark works very well for us. we use a orange bag stuffed with groundbait made of bran ,codliver oil, sardines mashed up and tiny bits off mussel, squid, and old mack, snd just throw it off the pier wall,or mark, tied to the end of rope, coalies, pollock, and flounder love it!!!
