Hi davethomas1
I own a grey's platinum brillant casting rod, only down side is the reel seat, get a fuji one fitted to it worth the money and i just bought the Century tip tornado sport what can i say about it, it is the ulimate casting and fishing rod if you know anyone who has any of these rods ask them for a couple of casts to see for your-self.
Best of luck on whatever rod you buy.

Hi Dave
Where are you going to use it - clean mixed or rough ground?
What are you using it for - whiting, flats and stuff or bigger toothier critters?
Clearly if you are throwing 5-6 ounces, you want distance, so think what length of rod?
12 foot is the minimum these days.
15 foot and more is becoming increasingly common and as someone with a bad back I can tell you it makes life a lot easier...

Re: looking for a new 5-6oz rod any suggestions?
i have a tip tornado sport and can honestly say i fell out of love with it when i picked up a real rod, its horribly unforgiving during the cast and is too bulky for a match rod. recently purchased a conoflex viking raider from viking tackle in bray, awesome rod, casts very well ideal for bringing in dogs from distance during a match, bite detection could be a little better but thats my only reservation. zipplex hsm is also worth a look at

A bit on the dear side and you will struggle to pick one up second hand but the ZZiplex GB3 Lite is a fantastic all rounder and well able for all but the roughest terrain. Its a fantastic piece of kit and I cant rate it highly enough. I have several zippys amongst centurys and other high end rods but this is the one I keep on returning to.

Hi Dave,
have you a budget in mind? That and the type of fishing you do will help narrow the options.
The world is your oyster at present for good rod choice.

HAVE a look at the century BB i was thinking of getting a new rod a month ago me mate let me have a go of his and now i have one order i've never cast as far with a rod and it has good bite detection and is slim and light enough its an allrounder but by far the best rod i have used to date.

you dont need to wind the bb up thats the beauty about the rod mate but i have seen them cast with a full pendulum and it handled it superbly perhaps you are thinking of a differnt Model

no im talking about the bb 15ft two equall sections, ive cast the bb
with 125gms was totally maxed out, and that was with a
fixed spool, put six ounces on it and it would be curtains, i suspect.
managed about 220 yards on 125 and that was it for the blackbird.

Re: looking for a new 5-6oz rod any suggestions?
CM BB BB signifies “BlackBird” – (Danny asked if we could and named after the legendary Lockheed S71 fast, long range strategic aircraft!) - is a well thought out progression of an existing principal - originally favoured by Continental anglers. Longer rods for lighter line fishing to cast big distances “at a stroke” The BB reduces the need to develop advanced casting styles and can help deliver considerable extra distance without changing from the most common overhead casting styles. It is thus easier to upgrade from rods where the angler has already developed certain skills and just wants get down to the serious business of fishing. The BB will still cater for OTG and Pendulum casting and is truly rewarding using these methods but they are not a prerequisite for success. We have worked extensively on the design of BB and in the process achieved a World Record cast of 229m using fixed spool reel.
