I lived in Orkney for a year (2007) and the shore fishing was miserable! and the boat fish was only really worth while if you could get into the Pentland firth but as the firth is one of the roughest stretches of water imaginable it was rarely comfortable. Yes you can fish Scapa Flow (plenty of wrecks) bit there is little tidal flow and the fishing is distinctly ordinary.

Lots of Pollack (although the locals dont seem to rate them) and loads of Ling.

My advice is take plenty of sea sick medication

Did I mention that Orkney is horrendous to get to? no? well it is!
