Taping on rings - which tape?
I have a blank arriving on Monday and will initially be taping on the rings until I find a set up that suits. What tape do the tournament casters use???
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Taping on rings - which tape?
I noticed that stafford had pulled off all the rings on his Zippy's and taped them back on with Pink tape, I think Pink is the new black....

Re: Taping on rings - which tape?
John, (Hallowgraphic, Prisim, gift-wrap tape is what ive heard it called) go for the thicker type though as i used a very slim one to do some rods and it left a real mess on the rod that was a bitch to get off

Re: Taping on rings - which tape?
Thanks for the replies, will give a look for some of it tomorrow.
Its a 15ft 2 piece carbon metal BB that I am building (FS), do I have to find the spine of the rod first?? How do I do dat ??
Gearoid, ya its the BB blank that I got. it went missing in transit for a while as the label fell off it.

Re: Taping on rings - which tape?
Thanks Tom, will give that a go this morning. I'm presuming from reading the Q&A's that for FS I put the rings on the opposite side of the spine.
Cheers.

Re: Taping on rings - which tape?
Yeah, thats right......good luck John
I use my bathroom floor, because its tiled (nice flat surface) wrap a piece of masking tape around the spigot and have a black pen at the ready to mark the spine.....hold the tip on your left open palm and with your right hand flat against the blank about 18" down, >press down and< roll it until it jerks to a stop.....lightly mark the top where its stopped.....do the same again and see if the same mark is at the top, if it is....good.....try again.....if its not mark the new top spot.....keep doing it until you get the one that come to the top everytime.......dont worry about it, you will find it easy enough.
Make sure your right hand is in roughly the same place each time.....the blank may have more than one spine.

Re: Taping on rings - which tape?
Had a few practice casts with it yesterday and was happy enough. It did make a pinging noise whilst casting ?? I recon I need to have more rings towards the tip. Maybe first 3 rings at 6" , 14" and 24" from the tip.
I taped the rings on at 180 degrees to the spine but am now thinking that I might get more out of the blank whilst casting if I had the rings alligned on the spine instead
I came to this conclusion by looking at the way I bring the rod around during my cast (rings facing forward for most of the cast)..
Any thoughts / ideas welcome..

Re: Taping on rings - which tape?
No, all blanks are laqured be it either clear or black so this acts as a barrier, beside it would want to be massive temps for the resin to start seperating. Tape: some of the lighter quality tapes leave one hell of a sticky mess on the blank when removed.
