Dublin Bay, 10/4/08

People: Me and My Dad (and two other boats)

Duration: 9 hours

Tide: LW was 10:30

Weather: Heavy shower in the morning sunshine most of the day then.

Bait: Jigs and then Fresh Macks

Rigs: Animal gear

Results: 2 Ray to 12lb, 1 Tope 25lb, loads of dogs and 1 herring. (other boats had 2 ray between them)

Report: Got Fresh Macks at the mouth of the Harbour (dun laoghaire) and headed out. Stayed at the same drop all day. Got 1 ray just after the 1st slack and the tope as the run picked up, Also missed a run from a tope as well. Got the other ray on the later slack.
Had some clown with 2 others in the boat drift across our anchor (dragging his). He hadnt a brain!!! Eventually he copped on to what we were saying bout going back the way he came just as we were telling him we were gonna cut his rope. People like this are dangerous on the water.

There was also a huge whale of some sort out there. Bit scary at times . It looked bout 30ft. It looked to be feeding under a large group of birds that were working the surface.

Nice report, good day had by all.

That whale - was it possibly a basking shark? Heard reports of a basking shark sited along Dalkey over the weekend. Any photographs?

No really dont think it was a Basking. Do Baskings break the water? I did some looking up on the net and my dad did the same and i asked him tonight what he thought. Both of us had the same opinion.....Minke Whale. Could be totally off the mark but the discriptions on the net are as close as i could find.

Did you you have to go out far from DL to get into ray & tope?
I have no GPSyet , but is there an identifiable location where I might have a bit of luck.

Iv'e never caught a ray or tope before , did they take the Mac

reports of fish do draw in the requests

all i can say is keep it to yourself

fish are hard enough to come by with out everyone heading to the same few spots.
ps. i normally get all of my ray and tope under the bridge
come to think of it i get my smoothies huss and spurdog there aswell.

I think people should share marks ,the sea is vast and theres more fish about than you think ,all the dublin sand banks hold tope and ray,we have had tope on the kish,burfourd and the bennet banks and alot of ray on the burfourd with some flats aswell.the frazer bank fishes better later in the year oct when the tope move inshore

My Dad fished the same mark today, i couldnt make it, with dogs being the only result.
15 Macks or so from the same spot just outside the harbour.
