Duration: 8.30 - 10.00 pm
Tide: HW at 8.40 pm
Weather: Dry, quite strong southwesterly breeze at times
Bait: Crab
Rigs: 2/0 and 1/0 two hook flappers
Results: 2 shore rocklings
Report: I had to go for a meal yesterday evenng and did get finished until after 8 pm. I would have liked to have headed out to one of the beaches but since I would miss the rising tide I decided to give a mark in Cork Harbour a go as it was close by.
I also had some fresh peelers - thank you very much Hugh
I got set up about 8.30 pm. There were little vibrations on the rod tip but nothing hooked - probably small fish nibbling on the bait. There was also quite a bit of seaweed about, particularly when the tide started to drop.
Both rocklings were caught after dark, one on the 2/0 rig, the other on the last cast with the 1/0 rig.
I have never caught rocklings before so I was quite pleased - may not be a bass but a new species for me.
So can anybody tell me from the photos if these are Shore Rocklings?
They didn't have much in the way of beards - the first one had a prominent beard below its lower jaw.
