I don't know cause I've never fished in England!!! I'm sure like over here if you know where to go and when you can do quite well.

One observation though, there's so much Irish Fishing in the British magazines it would make you think that we must have something good going on, look at Henry Gilbey, Mike Thrussel, Alan Yates and even Ian Golds & Chris Clarke in the latest sea angler all coming to Ireland to fish fairly regularly. Mind you if any of them fished the leinster League yesterday they'd think long and hard about about getting on the sealink again, poo!!!!!!

like alby i never fished over there. as for here its has some of the best fishing in Europe wreck fishing especially.

I'd like to try and fish the likes of the channel islands and maybe some parts off the south coast of england.!!!

Your getting mixed up with Norway, in Scotland they are called "Loch's"

i think irelands fishing is better then englands, A- because im irish and B- because i think Ireland is a better country then England

the geographical name for those features is "fjords" (a drowned glacier valley) i.e. killary harbour is a fjord (i believe) "lochs" is a regional name, like "loughs" in ireland..
so i believe its you who is mixed up!!!

and yes Killary is Irelands only Fjord, holds skate too

having fished both Ireland and UK (yet another name for that piece of land)

i have to say that the fishing is equal.. just at different times of year, over there winter fishing, and here summer fishing are a league of their own,

and i do know alot of lads who travel over here to get early ray, huss and have met one lad that came over (back in 2000) to target the humble doggie after hearing i used to catch 10-15 per session, he went home happy with just over 100 caught during the week

you'll find everywhere is special, at a certain time of year

all joking apart,and having fished in england and with a lot of guys from england i would honestly say ireland wins hands down ,,certainly down on the south coast,,but it is relvant to time of year,venue,conditions etc wherever you fish,,
the Best thing with ireland is the basic lack of shore anglers fishing some very productive marks,,

Fjord is a Nowegian word, why use it on an Irish site about a Scottish Loch

I fished the South Coast of England and Jersey for 10 years or more, boat angling. Shore angling over there is a lot harder than here, fish there seem to be scarcer and you need to be a lot better angler to catch there than here. Because we have better fish stocks.

Fishing in Ireland is far better, because we have it all, and we have better fish stocks. Having said that, I do miss the wrecking trips in the English Channel for Cod and proper big congers, and Jersey for the Bass/flatties/rays and Black Bream.

so, you can catch over there but you need to do yur homework and target your species for time/tide. Here, you can just go fishing with a good expectation of not blanking.

It's a bit like asking who was better, Liam Brady or Roy Keane. With proper preparation and thought regarding bait, venue, species, tide, weather, tackle, one could be successful whether fishing England or Ireland.

Back in the day UK angling journalists like Alan Yeates and Mike Thrussell could be quoted saying that fishing in Ireland was far better than scratching two Whiting and a Rockling off your local beach. Judging by recent posted reports, even allowing for the time of year, there is not much more being caught over here.

Yes even today this country is vastly under fished, so maybe we do not know the true potential. But there is one thing for certain, pre 1990 there was a lot more fish to catch around the shores of both Ireland and England. It's questions relating to that topic that we really need to be asking.
