Youghal Bridge, Co. Cork 10/02/08

#1 Post by RockHunter »

People: Me

Duration: 2.30 - 5.45 pm

Tide: HW at 7.00 pm

Weather: Light breeze, cool, dry

Bait: Crab, squid, mussel

Rigs: 1 hook flapper (3/0), 2 hook flapper, 2 hook paternoster (hook size 2)

Results: 2 codling

Report: Colder than yesterday so I was hopeful that some cod might make an appearance. Set up about 200 m upstream from the bridge on Cork side of river.

I caught the first codling as the tide was beginning to rise on fresh peeler crab. Not a bad size, 2.5 lbs, 43 cm long. Got the second codling as the flood started, again on crab. This one was much smaller, just over 1 lb. After that I had problems with weed, and the current was pulling the line upstream despite using 5 and 6 oz gripper weights. Got snagged a lot and lost a few rigs.
