doughmore and environs 13/11/7

#1 Post by jw »

People: jw

Duration: 12:30-15:30

Tide: low water up

Weather: was hoping to go on a boat trip, wind was nw force seven so decided to try for a bass in the surf

Bait: fresh lug

Rigs: 3 hook flapper

Results: one small bass

Report: i tried Doughmore. All i had with me was four ounce grips and they couldn't hold and were slowly washed in. Maybe that was a good thing i dont know. The surf was breaking for six of seven hundred meters out. I wasn't sure if i was wasting my time there
so i went round the corner to a sheltered beach with one breaker and i got what i came for -- only a small one but i was pleased.

Was that the White strand you got the bass on? a small little beach with a head land dividing the beach into two? Word has it an 18lb bass was taken frm doughmore in the last 4 weeks. supposedly by a german guy who ate the fish. it might sound like a lie to a lot of people, but anyone who's familiar with the clare coast would know that such a fish is a possibility. No one fishes the area, it's a total unknown wilderness.

people do fish the area - just not with much success if your talking about bass

or more likely probably just dont post here - heard of plenty of other catches

seems like white strand there near seafield - not as many breakers - and the access to that spot at annageeragh seems very limited - never tried there - anyone ever have a go at that beach?
