Another Dublin beach - 10/11/07

Duration: 10am-12:30pm

Tide: high at 11:30

Weather: windy, sunny intervals

Bait: green kilty lure

Results: 5 bass

Catch and Release:: YES

Report: Another unforgettable fishing session. It's all happening very fast for me! I decided to try another beach this weekend. I arrived at around 10 am, I think. It was quite windy and the water a little choppy for surface lures, so I started with a green kilty. I wasn't very confident with the wind blowing straight from the sea into my face and casting only between 10 and 30 yards. Boy, was I wrong!?! After 10 minutes I was thinking of leaving when I got a BIG attack. The first one of the day: 5.5 lb and a PB!

Another angler (Nice meeting you!!) there took the picture below (next time I'll turn her a little more

). I moved a few feet and it wasn't long until the next one, but lost it (I forgot to set the drag after the first

). Again, after a short while I hooked a 4.5 lb, then 2 lb, lost another one at my feet of probably 2 lb, and the last was 2.5 lb. All went back to their homes. I then thought I didn't want to be greedy so I enjoyed the scenery for a few minutes and left with a huge grin in my face.

Well done. Just shows that when you put the time in you will get your just rewards. I'm still looking to get my first bass on fly

but I shall keep thrashing the water! Excellent Fishing and looking forward to talking to you again on a random dublin beach some time soon.

Thats a great session. Congrats. Inspiring to see the bass still around.
Can I ask where you got the c&r tool and is it easy to use?

I got it on eBay. It has a scale also, that's why I know the approximate weight. It is very handy and easy to use. Still getting used to it though, I've only used it in my last 2 sessions so far. It helps me to avoid touching the fish and to hold them still while unhooking. The fish jump about the first time you put the jaws in their mouth (lower lip), and they sometimes fall off it. So I don't raise them the first time. I highly recommend using this sort of tool!

Looking forward to seeing you again Denis, and also to meeting more fellow anglers on those beaches.

nice to see the bass havent moved off and i love what you did to the photo

if a good mark must be kept but you have to show off the killer fish thats on way to do it

That's some fishing. Was ment to to be out to day but had a lie in

as h*ll. Small point if you put your hand under the fish's belly will get better photos and its better for the fish.

What has to be done has to be done! A trick I've learnt in internet forums.

I hope it's enough though. I'd hate to see those marks lined up with people taking "my" fish home...

Perhaps I should not post so often...... And yes, it was a "little" chilly with the bloody wind.

Some great fishing there Inigo especially if its where I think it is but I'm probably miles off. It's great to see that the bass are still around. I'm half thinking of giving it a shot myself tomorrow morning after reading your report.

yep inigo, on my local mark i went down one for a nice spot of plugging one day only to be greeted by bass heads 'n' guts, a bucket full of peeler legs and some rubbish to boot.

Tom, I missed your post earlier. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind! I just read it was better to avoid contact with the fish.

wow...congrats inigo....nice session there....a bit that i want to share....if can or possible....support the fish body....since u want to release them....u get better pic with whole fish....just use the lip grip to control the fish,u can use the normal finger method but it wont be safe with the hook dangling around....most of the pic that u saw japanese angler just use a lipper in the photo with their big seabass are mostly destined for the table....but than again its on personal preferance....cheeerrrss and enjoy the bass on the spot...

I forgot to mention something. When I was about to release the last one I noticed the finest trickle of blood coming out of a gill. It had swallowed about 2 inches of the lure. I didn't have any problems unhooking it with short-nose pliers and didn't see any blood inside at all. So I decided to release it anyway. I hope it wasn't badly hurt...
