Report:

with the tides being perfect this weekend for huss i planned all week for this trip, finally when it arrived the heavens decided to open. having bought a beach buddy yesterday i remained undetered. arriving at the mark i only had the 15min hike to the point and i was fishing.i set up the shelter and was able to tackle up in relative comfort. when huss fishing i tend to fish 2 slightly different set ups. on the conoflex i will usually fish the pulley rig and a double fillet of mack or the tail section of a mack. i have also begun using whole pouting with success although i dont get them in great numbers so this is a bit of a novilty when i have them. on the ppt sidewinder i usually fish an 8/0 fixed patanoster with a 15 lb rotton bottom, and fish a short mackeral flapper and guts. i feel this broadens my chances of getting a conger as well as maintains the possability of getting huss on both rigs.

first cast resulted in a missed bit on one rod and a lost 3 lbs huss on the other. next cast i had a small doggy. what continued from here was a constant stream of huss with one dog and conger untill an hour after hw, the fishing began to peeter off then, at this stage the best huss i had had was only 3 lbs which was quite dissapointing as this mark usually averages about 5lbs. while i was contimplating this my conoflex gave 2 very slow nodds, different from the rattely bites of the smaller huss, before whooping over as a better fish took the bait, a solid strike and some vigerous pumping and i had a good fish clear of the kelp. when he surfaced it turned out to be a nice huss just shy of double figures...at this stage my heart tends to be in my mouth as ive a ratio of huss lost on top of the water to those landed is about 1:3.. this one was firmly hook in the jaw and landed without too much fuss, he weighed just over 9lbs. i had 2 more 5 lbers and dropped a similar sized one on the surface before hunger took hold and the fishing quitened. all in all i cant complain, 13 fish, 3 more dropped on the surface and only 2 casts without a bit made for some pretty good fishing
