I was more pointing out that you said in a PM that it would be a crap weekend to fish. All I am saying is that it wasnt by any means crap and that not to get too caught up in the solar charts etc...

Dude if I lived on or near the cunnigar and had fished it as many times I am sure I would have similar results.
I get to fish Kerry twice a year and have to make the most of it and to be fair I think we did.

I wonder how many of the bass you caught at the weekend are still swimming in the sea...????

I'll gladly invite you down with us in September and we'll see how you do..!

moon phases are part of the story, but not all of it by any means.

right place, right rig, right bait, right tactics, right weather, right temperature, right water condition, right tide, right feeding triggers (including phase) are all factors in catching , no one alone will do the trick.

there is nothing new about fishing by moon phases, peak times and triggers, i had been made aware of it ten years ago and was using it and i know guys who have been using it since the early 80s. it does have an effect, by my results and i wouldnt doubt one bit thats its workingfor cortaz, but .....

if you are in a good mark, with good watercraft, good bait, good rig and favourable weather and a bad phase you may well catch.

if you are in a crap mark, with rubbish bait, poor presentation and awful conditions on a good phase chances are you wont catch much.

its not a be all and end all of fishing, just part of the story

Totally agree Adam, I definitly think there is something in the moon phase etc but I think if you rely of this alone you could miss out on some decent fishing.

Cortaz : One thing you have to consider is local knowledge. You regularly outfish anyone who fishes the Cunnigar as you have fished it so many times. You seemed to have had a great weekends fishing when the moon was not at an ideal phase. Would anyone who went to the cunnigar had similar results - I doubt it. Skill and local knowledge will far outweigh a moon phase if you ask me.

Sorry Art you've lost me there hope i didn't sound like i was having a dig at your theory, no doubt its a factor all right, it's just hard enough getting the weather/tide/time to all fall into place, you certainly have Bigcol converted now as well , gotta check the moonphase first he keeps telling me

As for the moon phase theory,if it all lines up with tide and waether I am convinced that it helps hugly.As said previously you cant rely on it totally or you would only get out a few times a month but no coincidence Sean that the bass came on the feed within a 1/4 hour or so of the time I predicted it would get going.
In saying that I think the tide has a bigger part to play when fishing from the boat as our catches of sea trout as bass are testament to.

Adam is right Moon phases have been about forever in fresh and saltwater angling, have a look at any old ABU tight lines catalogue and they used to do a "good days to fish" calender based on it. Many articles have been written about it too over the years by vairous anglers. As several others have said it certainly does seem to throw up the bigger fish and better sessions but only when other conditions and factors are are all lined up nicely too, another weapon in your armoury. One thing you cant detract from Art is that he has confidence in his theorys cause he has worked on them and kept records over a long period of time. I believe if youve got confidence in what you do then you`ll not go far wrong

And yes Cunn did fish alright over the weekend, I had fish off it ok. Saying that i recon if the moon was better id have caught more or bigger fish. Why did I fish it when there was finally a good surf developing up the road that screamed to be fished? Because I was confident I was gonna catch there for various reasons and I did :D

Cheers mate, we just stick to the same 3 marks usually when down there.
I tihnk sometimes people get caught up running from A-B when in Dingle as there are so many marks to try. We decided to stick to 3 and just learn when and how they fish and it pays off.

Will be down again in Sept, will give you a shout if you are about for a session or two.

I agree. The conditions on Sundat night were perfect. Warm south westerly blowing, nice swell and a gentle run from left to right with no weed. It had been sunny all day so the sand bars we were fishing over were warm so all in all ideal conditions.

Dublin gets its fair share of bass but you really need to head south to get good qty of them. I love Kerry. Cant wait to get down again and to be honest we're thinking of another trip between now and September. Well worth it
