An Corraun, Mayo 21/8/2007

#1 Post by kieran »

People: Myself

Duration: about 2 hours

Tide: mid water on the up

Weather: cold NE, dry

Bait: nil;

Rigs: various lures

Results: 1 pollack (1 kilo), 1 mackerel (decent) and bizarrely given I was spinning one pouting (500 grams).

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:

Yep, first off was a pouting. Never knew they chased spinners but apparently they do. Was using a small surecatch pattern in the form of a mini pike (yeah I know in the sea!) but it looks like a small mackerel too. Worked fine. Took the mackerel later. Switched to a blue/silver saltwater tassie and took a nice pollack near darkness close in. Stuffed to bursting with sprats, coughed some up. Gannets showing me how to do it offshore, nice to be out and a pouting spinning is definitely a first...

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC
