Wicklow mark

#1 Post by col »

People:me

Duration:3hrs

Tide:rising

Weather:very nice at first but the wind shifted and rain followed

Bait:frozen razor,crab,squid,sandeel and fresh mackerel

Rigs:single flapper

Results:dogfish, mackerel

Catch and Release:: Yes/No, kept the mackerel

Report: Went out with the hope of a tope (just a small one :) ) so headed to a mark known to sometimes produce. Decided to start off with just sandeel in order to pick up my first doggie of the year ( !) and they didn't disapoint. It was nearly a dogfish a cast after that, only when I dropped in short for a few casts to try for flats did they stay away ( as did any flatfish ). Managed a solitary mackerel on feathers.
Entries now open for the Henry's Tackle Shop All Ireland Shore Smooth Hound Championships on July 18h hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

I was fishing a beach. I'd imagine that Newcastle would also hold loads of doggies along with the possability of one or two other species so hope you get a decent session, I would be interested to know how you get on there.
