East Coast ?

#1 Post by FatPiggy »

Hi Guys

I am wondering which is a good spot to fish on the east coast for sea fishing ? Beach ,rocks or piers ? A guaranteed catch !! I plan to bring my little son for a days fishing . I have a beach caster and a small rod for pier fishing !

Cheers FatPiggy

well goin on my expierence nothin is guaranteed on the east coast lately  , not even mackerel.. but a set of feathers or a few spinners might be your best bet for the young fella.. ya should pick up a few macks, maybe a few small pollock too if the weather is right, check the mackerel reports topic to see where is best for ya (its worth getting a tide chart too, theres a link to one on the site) - skerries/howth/dun laoighre/ greystones etc... Dogfish are pretty much a certainty on most of the beaches in wicklow and harbours too..late evening into nightfall would be best id say and would probly be your best chance of catching something different, maybe a smooth hound, flatfish, codling, huss etc.., bring him camping with ya for a night. In my opinion the further south you go from dublin the better the fishing gets on the east coast anyway BUT..havint really fished much north of laytown

the end of the west pier in dunlaoire is a pretty good spot for species but not size. my favorite spot is killiney beach, i have caught well over the 20 species mark there alone. but to be honest the best fishing would be further south towards wexford.
species for 2009 (42)
species for 2010 (27)
species for 2011 (12)
species for 2012 (8)
best advice for catching species is girls dont like fishing and its hard to catch fish when you sell all your gear'

Hi FatPiggy,
How old is your son? If he's old enough for a bit of a trek(about 1 mile) and a short climb down a steep bank, there's a mark behind Bray Head where you'd be guaranteed a few wrasse and pollock in close (even just dropping over the side) with plenty of doggies with a half-decent cast. If you think he's up to it, drop me a PM...
If you're looking for easy access close to your car, you could try Coliemore harbour on a high tide. There's plenty of mini-species to be had with a drop over the wall with a decent chance of a respectable wrasse or pollock.

Hope this helps
Pete

How about the harbor in Wicklow town, safe with good access, Codling ,pollack, whiting, wrasse, dogs, but be careful of catching weavers.
