Penn 525 Re-engage Problem

#1 Post by Liamo »

Lads,

I have a penn 525 and since the day I bought it I have had trouble with the anti-reverse mechanism. After casting when I take the reel back out of freespool the spool continues to turn (and I can hear a kind of clicking sound). I have to turn the handle to re-engage the spool properly. I searched through old posts here and found mention of similar problems. I was going to just send the reel off to Penn but was wondering if anyone has a quick fix or two I could try first

... a few people have pointed at the anti-reverse bearing as a probable cause of the problem. Where is this situated in the reel?

The only things that show IAR bearing have a problem is the crank handle can be move two ways, forward and backwards. What I mean is the spool is engage, but when the line is pull out from the spool, the handle will turn backwards.I dont quite understand when u say that u have to turn the handle to re-engage the spool properly. From what i understand is that its look like that the spool is not engage properly.

Tom,

Thanks for those links. That video is brillaint. Very very good but the background music is funny - makes the whole thing feel like a very relaxing and enjoyable experience!

Have posted my problem on that forum too. If I get an answer that works I'll stick it on this thread for future reference

Thanks a million,
Liam
