i would agree, ive caught 17 species from june 24th, around dublin, and that doesn't include many of the common species such as dab, coalie etc as i haven't done much bait fishing yet this year.
species for 2009 (42)
species for 2010 (27)
species for 2011 (12)
species for 2012 (8)
best advice for catching species is girls dont like fishing and its hard to catch fish when you sell all your gear'

Mick,
We had a club compo 2 weeks ago . . it was a shore species/rambler compo in the Wicklow area and the winner had 15 species.
I think over all there would be close to 20 as we all had species that others hadnt and vice versa :
A breakdown of what I can recall being caught is as follows :
1 Ballan Wrasse
2 Bass
3 Blenny
4 Coalie
5 Codling
6 Corkwing Wrasse
7 Dab
8 Dogfish
9 Flounder
10 Gilthead Bream
11 Grey Gurnard
12 Plaice
13 Pollack
14 Poor Cod
15 Pouting
16 Red Mullet
17 TB Ray
18 Tope
19 Bullhead
20 Coalies
There were also 2-3 other type of "rock fish" type things that I couldn't put a name on . . . but it was some 12 hours fishing!!

Yeah it could be closer to 30 . . I only included what was caught and I left off the 2 Smoothound species and I had atleast 2 other blenny/goby type fish that were caught 2 days previously but not caught on the day of the compo . . so that alone counts for 4 extra species . .
The bream were unusual thats for sure . . 2 of the same species so there was a few around that day>
