Yet another beginner that needs help.

Lad's I live in Offaly and am now hooked on sea fishing. There are 3 or 4 of us and we hire a boat for a day any where we can get one! Often it can be only the 2 of us so it can be a little expensive and when you add 6 hours driving to 8 hours boat fishing it can be a little tiring. So there's 2 things I would like a little help with: 1- if anyone has room on board for 1 or 2 lads that are keen to learn, could you please give me a shout ( pjcon71@eircom.net ). 2- is there any marks on the east coast that I could fish from the shore for conger or shark, also for conger from piers or harbor walls should I use a boat rod or a beach caster???

Hi Biffo,
Lots of harbours such as Dun Laoire and Wicklow have a resident population of conger. Its a matter of preference whether you use beach or boat rod but be sure your beach rod is up to the job and has a good bit of back bone. I dont go near boats so cant help there.

Thanks pat . think my 30lb class boat rod should be ok . and worse again Im a lillywhite living in biffo land

i used to use a boat rod for shore conger, but i find a strong beachcaster is a lot better. the extra length gives you more control and you get a better fight off them on a beachcaster too

Forget the little boys fishing for wee congers from piers that's too much like mackerel bashing

Mohawk I would love to but I m booked in with a skipper in Dundalk for tope on that saturday and I cant let him down. but if there are any more trips give's a shout.

Pity as some are travelling from Donegal and another from Nenagh so could have probably shared a car place too
