Galway Meet number 2 (june 30th - july1st) little killary
People:me, petekd, MC, Mr_Green, corbyeire, jparicka
Duration: meet at huntsman around 4pm... left lil'killary around 11am
Tide: all stages
Weather:heavy rain for 5 hours, light rain for 2hrs and clear in the morning
Bait:mack, sandeel, squid, blueys...
Rigs:various
Results:doggies, thornies, whiting, pollock, mackerel, conger
Catch and Release:: Yes(except mack, 1 mack was released)
Report:after bait collecting and coffee at my house with petekd and MC we met up with the rest of the lads around 4pm at the huntsman..
with varied amounts readiness a few of us had lunch (me MC, petekd) while the rest made their way out to the mark...(next time brian.. dont forget to fill the tank  ) ended up meeting the rest at moycullen (not my colon MC  ).. so the ones who stayed behind ended up being first to arrive.. after unloading the cars and spreading the load we headed for the rocks...
first catch was to Mr_Green with a nice thornie... a good sign of things to come..
not long after the barbie was sparked up.. there was more meat in the bags than there was walking around the field  ..
fish were slow but steadily coming in.. but it wasnt looking good for petekd or corbyeire, until petekd caught a double shot of doggies.. on a pennel rig :D ..
the rain was disheartening and people were swimming inside their water proofs.. we lost jparicka and corbyeire(went home) to the cold and wet.. and petekd to sleep(hyundai hotel) all before 1am..
so that just left MC, Mr_Green and myself to fish the beach(after setting up the tents infront of the carpark)
turbot were on the minds of them who fished the beach, but unfortunately doggies were on the hooks :? :?
after a while we lost Mr_Green to sleep..
just myself and MC left to catch a few more doggies and MC got his first beach caught mackerel.. when the sun came up(behind the clouds) it became time to unclip rigs and clip on 4oz leads...
time to test MC's Primo Syncro... all i can say is.. niiiiceeee..
MC was hitting into new line each cast.. my turn :D i couldnt see where the lead was going.. but i could see that there wasnt much line left on the reel.. line used was daiwa tounament on a 7ht with only a millimeter from being totally full..
ended up about 5am ish.. back to tents and sleep.. woke about 8am and Mr_green was getting ready to hit the rocks for a cast to see if he could get another ray before starting on the breakfast BBQ...
catches:
me: 5 doggies 1 thornie 1 mackerel 1 conger
MC: 5 doggies 1 thornie 1 mackerel(mack released)
Mr_Green: 5 doggies 2 thornies
Petekd: 4 doggies (afaik)
corbyeire and jparicka.. unsure what was caught between them

Nice ray lads, well done. Weather looked a bit awful.
Pete, that sausage looks a bit well done. You didn't let corbyeire cook again did you???!
And Steve, I never want to hear shrimping mentioned again. You're a sick, sick individual!

Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Looking at the picture of the cuisine you managed to produce, I might have been forced to sample the chippy van's fine dining experience

fair play mr green on the spread
got a mack (kept for bait) a pollack and 2 doggies - no bloody ray
when the move was being made to the beach, round 1 i said i had enough - was soaked to the skin with no change of clothes - was shivering badly
jahn - had 2 doggies and a whiting as far as i know
good to meet the heads again
so did ye decide - crinkly straws or straight straws

In fairness to Corby, the sausages were the only thing that got a scorching this time around. Your report card reads "much improved but needs to stay focused". :D
I of course, as is traditional, had a very heavy night the night before sampling all the delights Galway has to offer.... And was as such, consigned to a fairly miserable semi comatose state for the majority of the day. I moved into the beach buddy about a half hour after arriving and resurfaced a mere handful of times over the course of the day. Heavy fishing it certainly wasnt and I suppose 4 dogs was a fair reflection of that.
Following hours of seemingly endless wind and rain, (god, killary is a miserable spot when its like that!) and I pity the lads who stood out in it all day, i retired to the modest comforts of the Hyundai Hotel, complete with Duvet and pillows. All gear was pushed to one side, bed in the back was made and a much needed nights sleep followed. Fair play to the lads as I was somewhat wary about there being a pile of messing going on after dark and had locked the doors but I was left in relative peace for the night...!
Good to meet the lads again, fair play to all who made the trip and stuck out some truly awful conditions. To Dave Green for providing all the grub this time around, to Steve for doing the organising and to the god that is Ron Thompson who provided my beach buddy! I'm sure we'll all be back.
Big thumbs down to the bouncer on the door of "The Living Rooms" who wouldn't let me in on Friday night.... Apparently I'd had enough... Still hadnt had enough by the time the residents bar closed in the Hotel that night so I dont know where he got that from!

No idea what the problem was TBH Kev as I was fine. Sure how and ever, didnt matter a hoot anyway but a little annoying all the same. Wasnt going to pander to the little mans ego by kicking up about it either, we just headed elsewhere without issue. Grumpy so and so....
