Running ledger with rottem bottom and floating bead
Just made up a rig said as above...a running ledger with a rotten bottom with a longish snood with a large floating bead...for fishing in the local pier where there is heavy kelp and foul ground i may b on to somethin here...the bead will bring the bait just to kelp height, any curious fish should bite and with the rotten bottom im covered for snags...fitted with a 3/0 0im afetr fat pollock and mayb a maraudering bass..ill let u know how succesful i am, if i am

try a 6 foot rig body. attach weak link to bottom. snood at top of trace between 1 and 4 feet long. put floaty on this. if fished a short range to a tight line your hook and bait will fish above the rocks and weed. if u slacken off the line your hook will fish deeper/ close to the kelp. running leger into rough ground is more trouble than its worth!

If you want to use a running ledger you could just put the weight on a long dropper, with the rest of the setup as m.b3 suggested.
