here are some more baitfish patterns.nothing really so say about them except that the bottom fly is the fly i caught my first 5lb bass on.tend to fidh these on fast intermediate sinkers as they are quite dense and so dont sink to quickly.they are also quite heavy when casting so care should be noted.

ya i use circles quite reguraly. i tend to use that fly for dead drifting in faster currents or "dredging" on the surf beaches with a 550 grain teeny line, as well as pollack fishing. circle hooks are extensively used in saltwater flyfishing. alot of my mullet patterns are tied on smaller circles..

heres a pattern i got off an australian forum, fishes very well for pollack, gives a nice wiggle as it is retrieved

the head is made from mylar tubing, ive the tying on ukswff.co.uk.

have had 1 wrasse on the crab but havnt fished too much with them, gonna try for a few wrasse tomorro, the prawn fishes better for wrasse.

This my attempt at Ragworm fly only colour Flashy Chenille I had was orange. I will get some darker colours to be more realistic havent fished it yet but it could be good for the flatties. Tying is from here, http://www.globalflyfisher.com/patterns/boerste/

that has set me thinking! tied something in the same vein but without the stinger hook in the tail. Very impressed with that though. You had any success with it? Convinced the flatties will take flies when you see the way a few beads or sequins attract them to normal baits. Have you tried the magic heads on them? Chech out a link jimh has on this forum to see the life it puts into a fly.

Havent had anyluck with it yet only just tied it up. A magic head would be very good it would look very similiar to a rag worm in the water then. Have to get my hands on some of them.

some great flies there guys-

...i've attached two 'experimental types' with magic heads - sorry about quality of foto - chenile with no stinger - it helps the head do its magic a bit better with the material in free flow..god knows i've spent many hours hanging over the side of the bath making flies swim.

we have had some fish on these particularly the smaller one - wrasse and trout - but if any one is willing to try i think the MH is a definite plus at times.

i took these fotos last night quickly - left the flies on the kitchen table and put the new dog to his bed (20 wks) - he has a habit of jumping onto the table - this morning i cant find the green fly!

i also have some copies of Petijeans magic head fly DVD - he makes streamers and all sorts if any one wants it we could post it around etc.

i wonder jim if you weighted infront of the mh or split shot infront of the hook so that you get a nice wiggle as it drops in the water column would it be qhite effective for wrasse??

Ive seen some videos with fly's that have magic heads on them and the action that they have is brilliant http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=BgK8nBHrAZ8 . I would have used a cone head or tungsten bead on the fly instead of the dumbell eyes but didnt have any. Your flies look pretty good as well Jim. Where do you get the magic heads from? Ive caught my dog trying to get the flys off the table on me as well and she tries to eat the bucktail.

normally anything 'gimmicky' makes me move away quite quickly, but for some reason i keep coming back to the MH - it kinda needs a bit of attention rather than just a quick no.

i cant tie for S%$£e - Scenes from John Carpenters 'THE THING' bear closer resembance to my attempts at flies - fish em yep - tie em Nooooh'

ok a liitle bit but dont ask me to repeat the pattern

but....

there is a factor/s here which i cant help thinking about - magic head - descending vertically with a 'wiggly' worm like fiy - along a vertical wall of kelp 5/6 metres close in, like Neil says WRASSE - or a short strip with a 'suspended wiggle on foam' on a tight leader with a sinking line nailed to the bottom - yep

i do know that cutting the head (reducing) and cutting the head at different angles produces some serious variations that even the man himself will quite readily admit he hasnt fully explored...or understands - this is where modern material and tiers play such a huge factor..

i have loadsa them here if you need a few let me know guys -

so i would say try anything - it has to help in our presentations really and that cant be wrong -

The dog - i had to bring him to the vets again! (already a deceiver in the lip) just in case he swallowed the green one - found it in his ear mmmmh
