poor cod/ pouting

#1 Post by paulocallaghan »

can someone please explain the difference between poor cod and pouting. i have in the past seen anglers describe what i would call a pouting as a poor cod. while this is not normally an issue it does become a problem in a comp where points may be issued for species count. i see that in the species guide both are listed as different species so any help would be of assistance

Poor Cod V Pouting

#3 Post by JimC »

Picture is self explanitory.
The poor cod's scales will normally fall off in you hand as well.

This picture is taken from the CFB fish ID book downloadable at:
http://www.cfb.ie/fishing_in_ireland/fish_id.htm

Everybody should have a copy of this invaluable little book. (It will print nicely if you have a printer that will print in book format). If it cost money we'd probably all have two copies :)
