just wondering does anyone know or has heard of a device capable of launching weight and bait up to couple of hundred yards. i read about this in sea angler earlier in the year but cant find anymore about it.

I remember reading it and I think there was a link to a video somewhere on the forum. Try a search. From what I remember it was not something you would carry a long way.
