Mail order versus Irish tackle shops

#1 Post by Steve O'Hanlon »

I never thought I would see the day!

I was in Limerick at the weekend, and popped into Steve's Angling shop. He is selling Penn 525 mags for 179 euro. This actually works out slightly cheaper than buying them mail order from the UK when you include the price of p&p.

To be honest I was a bit taken aback, as I had been in the other tackle shop in Limerick and was quoted 270 euro for a Mag Elite!

Just goes to show that there is value in Ireland if you are willing to shop around. I might even consider buying one of these bloody awful multipliers things now (Luke/Mark, I'm only kidding!)

Penn 525 mag

Steve

I have 2 x 525 mag's (among others) and find them great reels, they are used both beach and boat fishing. I have heard a lot of people complain and say that they don't like them but to be fair I have never had any trouble with them and they are always in my tackle box ahead of any other reels.

abu 6500 c3 recon $48

#3 Post by jfkireland »

Guys,
Got my jackson lures email and their special of the month is an abu 6500 c3 reconditioned at $48.
These guys are great to deal with aswell.
Quote from the mail:

"Our special this month is the undisputed choice of many Muskie
fishermen?the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6500C3 Baitcasting Reel. These are
'Class A' factory reconditioned reels that were purchased directly from the
Abu Garcia Factory Outlet in Spirit Lake, Iowa. They have been completely
refurbished?new drag washers, worm gears, and pawls have been installed, as
well as any other needed new parts, and the reels are then cleaned and
lubricated. Both my son and I have used factory reconditioned 6500C3 reels
for the past six years, and they are still humming along, just like new..
These reels are one of the most dependable reels made, and will stand up to
hours and hours of casting of those large Muskie baits."

JK,

That reel would have levelwind making it unsuitable for shore fishing.

I actually use 2 of them, both C3's bought in the US what I did was get a new cage for them...30 sterling though but still it worked out with the price of the reel plus the cage it was still way cheaper than buying them here....Then if I wanted to use it with the levelwind say both fishing I just have to change cages back to the level wind one...

Now I have to say my fav reel still is my ABU6500 that I bought in 1983, still going strong and is actually a bit smoother than the new ones...
