Keelbands for Orkney 520

#1 Post by Claddagh »

Hello,
I want to fit stainless steel bilge keelbands to an Orkney 520. I presume there is timber inside the fiberglass. Has anyone done this? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Keel band

It is not recommended that you fit a steel keel band to an Orkney. There are different expansion rates between the fiberglass and metal. This can loosen the band over a period of time. Some people use plastic strips. The ideal is if you could get a length of the yellow gas pipes by the gas company. I used some of these for an Orkney longliner years ago and never had a days trouble.
