killiney cod

#1 Post by eric »

People:myself

Duration:2pm-6pm

Tide:full tide at around 4.30

Weather:calm

Bait:rag and peeler

Rigs:2 hook clipped down and a flyer

Results:2 cod, 5 whiting, 1 pout, 1 flounder and a half eaten dab?

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:when i got there as i was setting up my gear i spotted a small bass jumping out of the water very close in.i decided to fish out far because it was so calm but put a flyer on just incase the bass enjoyed peeler. it started off very slow with a small whiting and tiny flounder to show for 2 hours.
when darkness began to show the fishing picked up and i reeled in a half eaten dab. After that i landed my first cod this winter at 2lbs and it was followed by another two cast later , this was only 23cm but it was still a cod. I then got a triple shot of whiting all around 25cm and got 1 pout and a 1lb whitng on my last cast.
I fished where the reefs begin to show near the tea rooms, its just past the car park.
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

Same thing happened me a few weeks back on Greystones,reeled in a small whiting with the tail gone,gills gone,one eye missing?,the rod was out for about 20 minutes,so I thought the whiting hooked itself and was eaten by crabs?

Tope love dabs, in summer I only use dabs when fishing for tope, great bait for them.

You can always tell when crabs have taken the bait, eyes, guts and gills missing. Tope just take the whole thing and chomp.
