flattie rod

I am considering adding a flattie rod to my kit.

Can anyone tell me what size reel i need to use for such a rod.

Also any rod that comes to mind.

Someone in a old forum thread said a shakespeare odessa flattie rod is far better than price says.

so any advice as always welcome.

Belfast Angling stock Cono-Flex Flattie Fanatic rods.

Around £100 - £120.

Do you really need a 'flattie' rod? A light beach-caster will do the same job and provide more all-round fishing...

IMHO, think the rod manufacturers just design these things to hook the angler - not the fish :?:

any lite rods in mind.

just thought with fish smaller get a bass or flattie rod that will give more sport.

have a look at da greys bze dey arnt expensive and dey are good rods.
i have the heavier one of the two and it does me for flatties and light beachcasting.

I have a PPT Jetstream which is a great scratching rod and suits light beach work - it is also a 4 piece rod so doubles up as a travel rod.

Veals and Gerrys are doing one of these with a Penn FS Reel and a tackle box for £200....

i use an 11ft spinning rod combined with a abu mag lite... max casting weight 2oz... strong enough to play a bass, but light enough to detect a small flattie.. good for competitions..

there are a number of Shakespeare models out you have ODESSA FLATTIE the TIDEWATER FLATTIE and the SUMMIT FLATTIE if i was geting one it would be the odessa good little rod. as for a reel well i would say a size 50 would be spot on POWERPLAY REAR DRAG REEL isn't to bad like tho if you wanted to spend a lot of money then i would go for the Cono-Flex

im using an 11ft spinning rod at the minute (1- 1 1/2oz), also have the kind of permanent loan of a flattie fanatic for the heavier end (2-4oz)
i would like to get a rod around 15-16ft for 1 to 2 oz though, the fladen warbird is a nice rod for the job alright, but i dont want interchangable tips with it.

agree with that Phil- why are all flattie rods so short??? i didn't see enough of a difference between the 3 tips to make them completely necessary. i am sure others would disagree. the fladen rod has a bad finish on it too!!! lads reckon a long rod too take light leads would be too floppy? surely there must be a way to make them, i had a 14' coarse rod for floatfishing and it was slim and crisp??

yep, at the end of the day the technology is there to make them, and even they are floppy, sure it will protect the delicate baits like maddies etc used to target the flats at short range with long rigs...?

I just bought the smaller 11ft 9in 1-3oz version of the BZe. So far I've only had a chance to try a few casts with it, but it's a lovely rod, very light, you could hold it all day.

I use an Abu Enticer for most of my flattie work. Its actually semi beefy but plenty soft for having some fun with faltties. Not too expensive either.
