Orlock, County Down 01/09/06

Duration:ages

Tide:fished from just after low tide till 1 hr past high tide

Weather:sunny spells with rain, warm

Bait:Lugworm, Fish Strips

Rigs: 1 hook paternoster

Resultsx1 mackie (float), x1 Rock Cod, x1 Wrasse (not sure which type!), x1 Pollack, x1 Coalie

Report:Only had the one fish, a decent sized Mackeral, on the float just as tide was turning. The others were all on the bottom just after high tide all apart from the Mackeral were on the small side. All were returned to the water unharmed (even though I was running out I couldn't bring myself to kill one of the "wee ones" for bait!)
There were a couple of other guys fishing the feathers but apart from a tiny coalie nothing else was caught.
Missed a lot of small takes but still had a very enjoyable few hours (a wee bit too busy there for my liking, if you know of any "quiet" marks at Orlock please let me know)

orlock is always busy in the summer mate. but there is plenty of rocks to fish from. just take a dander and try somewhere that is quiet. u will catch fish from any stretch along and some spots will throw up interesting results. i've fished alot of different spots at orlock with results ranging from mackerel, coalfish, pollack, wrasse, cod, lsd and conger so be adventurous. i find most people that fish this spot r only after mackerel and therefore most r not aware of what species can actually be caught from certain spots along the rocks. i fish this area alot but i'm always learning more about it every time i fish it. for example only last week i fished a spot for the first time and the rod was barely on the tripod when it was away! this happened every cast till i was out of bait, fast and furious! might c u on the rocks some time mate and good luck!

I'll definately be taking your advice Rab, this place is gorgeous and it has that "fishy" look about it

I'm sure you'll find me in some out of the way spot having a ball, look forward to meeting you.

defo bulldog, if u fish orlock enough u'll bump into me at some stage. apart from today when i spent the whole day suffering in bed! bloody drink! any advice on fishing ballyhalbert? i read that alot of whiting get caught in winter, r we talking any size?

I've only started fishing Ballyhalbert this summer m8 but I have heard of some good Pollack getting caught on the rocks way to the right of the harbour (along with the odd sea trout too!).
If I hear any gossip I'll let you know.

Holy Good God! There's a man from Talbotstoun! Anyway, The Pier at Ballyhalbert has produced Codling, Whiting, Rockling, Doggies and Coalies for me, fishing into the mixed ground, if that helps.

Fished Ballyhalbert last winter and the Whiting are few and far between, Maybe 1 every other trip and they are small.
