He He, i cant believe it, went down to sea court yesterday to catch the high tide (13:36) and at about 12:45 bagged another codling

10 minutes later caught a rather nice mackerel.
the conditions were the same as the 7th, very cold NW wind, choppy to ruff sea very close to high tide.
for anyone who's interested they were caught on a 12ft pike rod strung with Dennet R320 trace. i'm a tight git so these have be cut down from 5 to 2

here's one for you (you're all going to think i'm mad, i'm sure), i've taken to bringing a mag lite with me and every so offten i shine it on the luminous beads just before i cast, it makes then glow really bright

Well done, Mal.
I'm new to sea fishing myself and as the sea (and bait) are only a couple of hundred yards from my house it's a waste if I don't get out and get some fishing done.
What method did you catch your fish on m8?
I tried float fished lugworm, fished close to the rocks just before high tide next to Ballyhalbert harbour gave me great sport, I only caught one Coalfish around the 1 1/2lb mark but I missed dozens of bites and it's really got me hooked too!!
I'll be going again soon but I'm busy with work just now

Hi Tam, method or madness

i've tried floats a couple of times now baited with strips of mackerel belly (the white bit) and had quit a lot of bits but hooked bugger all. so i lost Patience and went back to spinning.
i've had the most success with dennett R320's they're the synthetic feathers, there silver and red with a little luminous bead on the end, as i mentioned i cut them down from 5 to 2 and have still caught loads of mackerel and pollock. it's just been this week i've bagged the codling, think it might be something to do with the wind turning from south to north but that's just a guess and most people are laughing they're asses off reading this, i'm sure

unlike yourself i've been trying to get mine (feather or float) as far out as possible and have developed quite a hefty cast. i generally use my leeda 12ft pike rod with a 2oz weight which gives me a good range, however i bought a leeda olympia beach caster and have been practicing with 4oz, OMG!!!! it doubled my range, honest! i wouldn't have thought it was possible to cast so far.
i've bought a few different types of sea rig and want to go for bigger fish but being as i'm an anal git i wanted to make sure i could cast before i try

well anyhow, hope there's something in amongst my mad ramblings that's of use to you Tam, and if i'm heading down your way i'll post and let you know and well, maybe we could hook up and catch some fish

. I just got a beachcaster too but I was having so much fun with the close in work that I haven't even tried to cast a "serious" distance yet, I think that like yourself I'll need to do some practicing first!
Thanks for the reply, I'll need to have a look and see if I can get something similar...got to go...dinner's burning and the wife will kill me if she gets burned offerings!

hello again, yeah, that'd be great as it is i've only fished round bangor and i'love to try somewhere new.
my wife's due to drop number three any day now so this weekend is out for me (she's booked in for sat), but then i'm off for two weeks so i'm be able to help out by taking the boys fishing

portaferry's on our hit list for the week day's as for the weekend, maybe we could hook up?

Fished bangor pier on monday night with a few mates. We fired big mackerel baits out from the end of the pier on beachcasters which only resulted in catching small pouting and whiting. Fished for congers too but drew a blank. Noticed a lot of big fish heads floating about in the water which must have came from the trawlers. I think all the congers must have had a good feed on these before we arrived and thats why we couldnt catch any. Thats my excuse anyway lol.
