Weather:cats and dogs

Bait:rag,lug ,mack,sandeel,white rag and squid

Rigs:2 hook +3 hook pats and float gear

Results:3 thorn back rays, 4 red gurnards, 4 pollack, 1 dab and 3 wrasse


Report:headed of up to dunree on the spur of the moment + had a decent wee days sport and craic, was greeted with typical donegal weather p*****g down as usual
picked up the wrasse on the float on the open sea side of the head and picked the pollack up on the float inside the bay
picked the thornies up by casting towards portsalon two came on straight king rag and one on sandeel best weighing about 5lb, it was a hard and tricky job to return fish safely here due to the wet rocks and being 25--30 ft above the water
gurnards + dab came from same area and all fish went back except for one pollack for the pan.
thanks to pete for directions to the mark as it was tricky to find due to a lack of signs and me not able to read gaelic

Its a nice wee walk out to there Rab isnt it......! Glad you got a few fish anyway.

looking at the head from the car we both said it wouldn;t take 20 mins walk to the head but were we wrong ??when we were humping the gear thru the heather to get up on to the head

A 12 hour session is the only way, out across the beach at low and back at low..... Long time on a quiet/wet/windy day though! 20 minutes wrestling through all that heather and bracken would be seriously good going. Grand mix of ground at that particular spot all the same, you can try a lot of different tactics.

Watch out if that river on the beach is in flood. Came across the beach at low tide early this year but had to go the heathery route on the way back only to reach the river at high water and it having rained all day was now in full brown spate. Had then to walk into the valley to try and find a bridge to cross it - bout an hour and 20 mins walk afore i got back to the car

yeah on the way out it was only ankle deep and able to walk on the stepping stones and my da had moaned all day about wet feet from the wet heather and i had kept my feet dry all day long until the way back when i had to wade thru the river at knee deep looked for a shallow place to cross and gave up and just waded into it

Believe it or not, salmon actually run up that little river on occasion. I know as an acquaintance once, how shall we put this, stumbled across a couple while he was carrying a pitchfork at night a bit further upstream......
