After this the fishing was poor enough to be honest, pollock to 4lb, poor cod, small ling, grey gurnard and whiting turned up whilst drifting. We then anchored up for conger and whilst a good few came aboard there were none over 8lb.
Seen porpoises and two sunfish (seem to be very abundant this year) and even a bait ball. It was no more than 5 feet under the surface, around 3 metres in diameter and seemed to be composed of sandeels. I'd never seen this other than on tv, you could see the birds diving down underneath it and then darting up into the ball and taking a fish. We dropped down feathers and immediately took mackerel, under them again were pollock. Summer time and the sea seems absolutely alive with fish
