Results: 14 lsd, 6 plaice, 1 pouting,3 pollack,1 coalfish
Report: Arrived at 5pm and getting a space was near impossible so fished the side of the pier, went without a fish till about 8pm when the mate caught the 1st pollack ( small). The rest of the fish were took after midnite which by that time had seen most leave except a few so was able to get to front of pier.
Not long after we arrived a guy called us over to see a lobster rught up against the wall of the pier in about 2ft of water, a group of younger lads ( late teens early 20,s)came over and then a conger poked its head out beside the lobster so the lads grabed thier rods baited with mackeral and caught the conger ( which was fine) but what happened next shocked me.
The rods werent strong enough to lift it so one got in with chest waders on and tryed to net it then shouted up to one of the others to grab the hurley bat, which he was only too happy to do and climbed down with the other one and batter the conger with the bat. Once the got it up on the pier they then asked who wanted it as they were gonna kick it back in.
I asked why they killed it , thier reply was they wanted thier hook
I tryed talking to them explaing the price of hook compared to the sport fishing gives and about catch and release, they agreed but i have no doubt the next conger will get the same fate.
also a ty to the guys that left us the rag as we had finished ours , greatly appreciated.
