11th trip of 2024
with the casting field not cut yet I was at a loose end so I decided to go fishing, with a few WhatsApp's to my mate Louis a plan was hatched to fish a local to me low water mark before headed onto a beach. These two marks are only about 10 minutes apart and both in the swilly. With the location chosen, baits where sourced and rigs made ready. We decided to fish a night into morning tide which meat first cast was about 11.30pm and last cast was at 7.30am. We met up at the first mark and loaded our gear and enjoyed the long walk to the sea. Louis was first off the mark with a doggie 1st chuck, followed by another, crabs where very active with baits being stripped inside 10 minutes. I struggled to get a bite but did land a doggie just on low water. We fished the low water mark for 4 hours then the tide started to pull and weed became a problem , so it was decided to pack up and head to another mark, while packing up Louis landed a ray breaking his Donegal curse this year. After the walk and quick drive to the second beach, followed by a short walk we where fishing again and 1st chuck I was into a ray, then a dog then a ray. It died off around high water and we started bringing in lumps of weed so it time to pack up and head home. In total I had 3 rays and 5 doggies, while Louis had 5 doggies and 4 rays including the best one a fat ray of 6lbs.
