Short Mayo sessions

#1 Post by saving private brian »

With the long weekend that was in it, I was fortunate enough to get two short sessions in.

First was a Mayo beach on Friday for 2.5 hours. The day was glorious and with a surf that was perfect , my expectations rapidly increased.Fished two rods and they never stopped for the whole duration. All fish were turbot and we're coming in there 2's and 3's depending on the rig setup....No monster fish but there was a few between 30 and 32. Certainly not bad for this time of the year and this venue looks promising for the summer...I managed to pull about 40/50 turbots for my duration....

Second venue was a grassy ledge that I fished from and into deep sand and gravel.. It's a venue I managed to engineer years ago by local knowledge of the area myself as well as looking at nautical charts. I hadn't been at this venue in a long time and with past visits throwing up dabs, turbots, plaice, ling, red and tub gurnards,Pollock, codling, poutings etc, I am just surprised with myself that i left it so long.

Anyways fished it for 2 hours and managed to pull 12 dabs from the deeper sand.... Quality was poor unfortunately.

For the last hour or less I moved to gravel type terrain and plucked up one Pollock while I lost another on the retrieve up. He was a decent fish I lost . probably around the 5/6 lb mark. Nice to see an indication that they are still about this time of the year..With the parade's to kick off roughly at 3pm ,I packed up and headed away home to miss all the rustle and bustle

All fish returned alive
